The Stephen Hawking Medal for Science Communication is an honor bestowed by the Starmus Festival to individuals in science and the arts to recognize the work of those helping to promote public awareness of science. Under the name of the greatest scientist of the 20th and early 21st centuries, Stephen Hawking, and sponsored by Starmus, the most ambitious Science festival of all time, the Stephen Hawking Medal is a prestigious award that recognizes the merit of popular science on an international level. The design of the medal is based on a portrait of Professor Hawking by cosmonaut Alexei Leonov, the first man to perform a spacewalk and a member of the Starmus Advisory Board since its first edition. The other side combines the image of Alexei Leonov´s first spacewalk and the iconic guitar – the “Red Special” – to demonstrate music, another major component of the Starmus Festival. Previous recipients of the Stephen Hawking Medal include Hans Zimmer, Neil deGrasse Tyson, Jean-Michel Jarre, Elon Musk, and Buzz Aldrin.
Sonic Universe & Stephen Hawking Medal Ceremony are included in the entire program of Starmus and general tickets, which cost 30 000 AMD for students and 35 000 AMD for general attendees.
